Frequently Asked Questions

How does Lumecca work?

Lumecca is the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) available for treating pigmented and vascular lesions. After just one use, patients notice significant improvements in complexion and clarity. It works through photothermolysis, delivering a comfortable light treatment that acts like a photofacial.

What are the benefits?

In just a few sessions, results include:

  • Age spots and red or brown pigmentation
  • Vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) and poikiloderma
  • Rosacea and facial redness
  • Freckles
  • Sun damage
What areas can be treated?

Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas are those regularly exposed to the sun, including the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands, and arms.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning for about one month before treatment.

How many sessions are required?

An improved appearance is often noticeable after the first session, and multiple sessions provide even better results. Your plan depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, treatment type (vascular vs. sun damage), and energy settings. We typically suggest a package of 3 for optimal results.

How quickly will I see results?

Sun damage and complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session, with skin continuing to look brighter over time and most visible results after 1 to 2 weeks. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can take up to 2 weeks.

Are there any side effects?

Most patients experience no side effects, and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. You may be more sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment, so avoid direct sun and tanning.

What should I expect during and after?

During treatment you'll feel a bright flash of light and a light elastic sensation. Redness and slight warmth afterward usually subside within an hour. Over the next 24 to 48 hours, pigmented spots darken and then flake off over the following week, evening out your skin tone. Treated vessels may blanch or change color before fading over a few days.
