Are there any reasons I should not receive a SkinPen® treatment?
SkinPen should not be used on patients who:
- Have active skin cancer in the treatment area.
- Have open wounds, sores, active acne, or irritated skin in the treatment area.
- Have an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics.
- Have a bleeding disorder or hemostatic dysfunction.
- Are pregnant or nursing.
- Are currently taking isotretinoin (such as Accutane).
- Have a history of keloids, psoriasis, or rosacea.
How long does it take and will it hurt?
The SkinPen procedure typically takes 30 minutes to an hour. Based on your needs, your provider may apply a topical anesthetic beforehand to keep you comfortable and relatively pain-free. Most people report feeling only the slight vibration of the SkinPen during treatment.
How many treatments are recommended?
The number of treatments is determined by your skin-care professional based on your individual goals and skin health. A course of three to six procedures is typical, with return visits every four to six weeks for optimal results. While multiple sessions are recommended, you may notice improvement just one week after your first procedure as your body's healing process promotes collagen remodeling.
