Sound waves that wake up your body’s own repair response
What StemWave actually is
StemWave is an acoustic wave device — a focused version of what is often called shockwave therapy. Using its PACE® technology, the handpiece sends focused pressure waves through the surface of the skin and into the tissue underneath, travelling at roughly 1,500 metres per second and reaching as deep as 12 centimetres. Nothing is cut, nothing is injected and nothing is burned. Despite the name, StemWave does not involve stem cells or injections of any kind.
What those waves do once they get there
Cells respond to mechanical pressure, not just to chemistry — a process called mechanotransduction. As the waves pass through, they stimulate cell signalling and increase blood supply to the treated area, and better local circulation is what supports the body’s own natural recovery. StemWave® is intended for temporary relief of minor aches and pains and improvements in local blood supply, which is why it pairs so well with the rest of a wellness plan rather than replacing it.
What a StemWave Session Looks Like
We find the sore spot
Your provider talks through where you feel it and checks the area. A little ultrasound gel goes on the skin so the waves travel cleanly into the tissue — nothing else is needed, and you stay fully dressed apart from the area being treated.
About five minutes of treatment
The applicator is moved over the area while it delivers its pulses. Most people describe it as a firm tapping or pulsing sensation. Tender spots can feel more noticeable — that is normal, and the intensity can be adjusted as you go.
Straight back to your day
There is no recovery time, no bandage and no medication to take afterward. Most plans run as a series of short sessions spaced roughly a week apart, and your provider will map out how many make sense for you.

What is StemWave® therapy?
StemWave is a non-invasive acoustic wave treatment. A handheld applicator sends focused pressure waves through the skin into the tissue below, stimulating cell signalling and increasing blood supply in the treated area. It is intended for temporary relief of minor aches and pains and improvements in local blood supply, and it involves no needles, no medication and no downtime.
Does StemWave use stem cells?
No. The name causes a lot of confusion, but nothing is injected and no stem cells or other biologics are used. StemWave is a device that delivers sound waves through the surface of the skin — the only thing that touches you is the applicator and a little ultrasound gel.
What does it feel like? Does it hurt?
Most people describe a firm tapping or pulsing sensation as the applicator moves over the area. Tender or irritated spots often feel more noticeable than the surrounding tissue — some patients say that is how they know the right area was found. No numbing is needed, and the intensity can be adjusted throughout your session.
How long does a session take?
The treatment itself takes about five minutes. Allow a little extra for check-in and for your provider to go over how the area is responding, especially at your first visit.
How many sessions will I need?
StemWave is designed as a short series rather than a single visit, with sessions usually spaced about a week apart. The number depends on the area, how long it has been bothering you and how you respond, so your provider will build a plan for your situation at your consultation.
Is there any downtime?
None. There is nothing to recover from, nothing to bandage and no medication to take afterward. You can drive yourself home and go straight back to work, errands or the gym.
What areas can be treated?
StemWave is used on knees and hips, lower backs and necks, shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands, and feet and ankles. If you are not sure whether your particular sore spot is a good fit, bring it up at your consultation.
When will I notice a difference?
Some people notice a change after their first session, while others build improvement gradually over a course of treatment. Individual results vary, which is why your provider will check in on the area at each visit and adjust the plan.
Who is not a good candidate for StemWave?
Acoustic wave treatment is generally not appropriate over an area affected by pregnancy, an active infection, a known tumour, or an implanted device, and it may not be suitable if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners. Your provider will review your health history and current medications first and let you know honestly if StemWave is not the right option for you.
Does StemWave replace physical therapy or seeing my doctor?
No. StemWave is intended for temporary relief of minor aches and pains, not to diagnose or treat an underlying medical condition. Persistent, severe or worsening pain deserves a proper medical work-up — and StemWave often works best alongside the care you are already receiving.
